New Delhi: Only 35 overs of play was possible on Day 1 of the second Test match between India and Bangladesh in Kanpur on Friday. Overnight rain delayed the start of the match by one hour and later umpire called off the day early due to the bad light and heavy rain.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma opted to bowl first in Kanpur due to the overcast conditions. The Indian team remained unchanged for the second match as the hosts kept all three pacers from the Chennai Test, which meant that local boy Kuldeep Yadav missed out on another Test.
The ball was swinging and seaming due to the overcast conditions and Bangladeshi batters struggled to score runs against the Indian pace attack. Akash Deep took the first wicket for India and removed Zakir Hasan on a duck. He picked up his second wicket and dismissed Shadman Islam for 24 runs.
Mominul Haque and Shanto stitched a 51-run partnership for the third wicket. But Ashwin dismissed Shanto for 31 runs after the lunch. Mominul and Mushfiqur were batting when the umpire stopped the play due to the bad light but later the match was called off as heavy rain lashed out at Green Park Stadium.
