New Delhi: A Bangladesh supporter was allegedly hit on the first day of the second Test between India and Bangladesh at the Green Park stadium in Kanpur on Friday, September 27. According to reports, a fan who goes by the name of ‘Tiger Robi’ has claimed that he was assaulted by a group of people present at the venue.
However, the police personnel at the venue presented a contrary case, rebutting the claims of the Bangladesh supporter. The police said that dehydration was the cause for the Bangladesh spectator being rushed to the nearby hospital immediately.
“A section of the crowd has been abusing me since the morning. Once lunch was called I just started shouting the names of Najmul Shanto and Mominul Haque. Few of them started shoving me around, tried to tear my mascot (Tiger) and my flag, and when I resisted they started hitting me,” Robi told The Indian Express.

A UP police officer dismissed the claims and linked the possibility of dehydration, though he wanted to wait for medical reports.
“One of our officers found him gasping for breath near the C block entrance, and he was struggling to speak. It seems like a case of dehydration, but we will wait for the doctors’ advice,” a police source said, as quoted by Sportstar.
This isn’t the first case of a Bangladeshi supporter facing the heat in India. During the 2023 World Cup match between India and Bangladesh in Pune, a well-known supporter named by Tiger Shoaib was harassed by local fans. Shoaib’s tiger mascot was torn by the Indian supporters.
India-Bangladesh 2nd Test Day 1 called off
The opening day of the second Test was limited to just 35 overs as the day was called off due to incessant rains. The toss was delayed by an hour in the start of the day because of wet outfield. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first.
Bangladesh opener Shadman Islam showed great intensity against the new ball bowled by Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj before Akash Deep removed both openers in the first session. Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto along with Mominul Haque build a decent partnership of 51 runs before the former was trapped before the wickets by Ravichandran Ashwin on 31.
Bangladesh were at 107 for 3 before the stumps was called off on Day 1 with Mominul (40*) and Mushfiqur Rahim (6*) batting for the visitors.
