New Delhi: Team India batter Suryakumar Yadav was full of praise for his Indian counterparts Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja who shone during the first day of the opening Test between India and Bangladesh in Chennai. Ashwin (102*) went on to smash his sixth Test hundred, his second at his home ground, taking complete advantage of the homely conditions to resuscitate the Indian innings alongside Ravindra Jadeja who scored 86*.
India ended Day 1 at 339/6 after 80 overs but it didn’t look achievable at one point. Bangladesh, opting to bowl first, took advantage of the decision and removed the Indian top order under the first 10 overs, reducing India to 34/3. The likes of skipper Rohit Sharma (6), Shubman Gill (0), and Virat Kohli (6) were all sent back by right-arm pacer Hasan Mahmud, who also got rid of Rishabh Pant (39).
With Yashasvi Jaiswal (56) and KL Rahul (16) also moving back, India were 144/6 and it almost looked that with the tone Bangladesh has set, even 200 would be difficult but… then arrived the two batters who decided to play on for the rest of the entire day. Hitting 10 fours and two sixes each, Jadeja and Ashwin stitched an unbeaten 195-run partnership, a record (7th wicket or below) for India against Bangladesh in Tests.
The masterful knocks from the spin allrounder duo didn’t just surprise the fans but also left the Indian cricket fraternity in awe of the right-left combination. Suryakumar Yadav took to his Instagram handle and posted stories on Ashwin and Jadeja. Hailing the local lad’s hundred, Surya comically said, “Maaf karna ash bhai. Bahut bade player ho yaar. Lekin? (I apologise Ashwin brother. Your really are a big player. But?).”
For Jadeja, Surya had a special praise saying, “Cheeteh ki chaal, baaz ki nazar, aur jaddu bhai ki talvaar pe kabhi sandeh nahi karte. Kabhi bhi maat de sakti hai (One can never doubt a Cheetah’s walk, an eagle’s eyesight, and the sword of Jadeja. They can defeat anytime.)”

India aim to extend lead on Day 2
Day 2 for India will be crucial in terms of getting the team into an advantageous position, which some might feel they are already in, but the early blows like the previous day will put Bangladesh in the driver’s seat. Although Jadeja and Ashwin have almost completed a 200-run stand, looking beyond the personal milestones, the Men in Blue would need to breach the 400-run mark, considering the risk factor posed by an in-form Liton Das, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and Mushfiqur Rahim.
Seeing Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja doing the rescue acts for Team India in the Chennai Test vs Bangladesh, Suryakumar Yadav was all praise for the allrounder duo.
