New Delhi: Team India got off to a horrible start in the first Test against New Zealand and lost six wickets in first session at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Sarfaraz Khan were dismissed cheaply in the first hour of the match.
After the entire first day was washed out due to the rain, Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first in overcast conditions. But the decision backfired quickly as Rohit was dismissed for just two runs. He stepped out to hit a boundary but missed an inswinger from Tim Southee with the ball crashing into the stumps.
In the absence of Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli came to bat at the No.3 position but he was dismissed by William ORourke on a duck. He looked to defend off his toes but the ball caught the top glove and Glenn Phillips at leg gully took a great catch. Kohli’s last duck in a Test match also came against the Blackcaps in Mumbai in 2021.
Matt Henry dismissed Sarfaraz Khan on a duck as Devon Conway took a sensational catch at extra cover. Sarfaraz got a bottom edge of his bat to a length ball and Conway dived to his right to pull off a stunner. It was the first time since 2010 that Team India lost 3 wickets for 10 runs or below at home.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s poor run continues
Team India’s stalwarts, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have failed to deliver a big performance once again. Both batters failed to register a single half-century in the Bangladesh Test series and their poor form continues in the first Test against New Zealand.
Rohit has scored two centuries in 16 innings this year but he has only managed to score one half-century in the remaining 14 innings. Meanwhile, Kohli, who is just 53 runs away from completing 9000 Test runs has not crossed a 50-run mark in seven innings this year.
Despite getting good starts against South Africa and Bangladesh, the star batter has failed to score a fifty. Both batters got out on a duck in the opening Test in Bengaluru and their form is a worrying sign for India ahead of the five-match Test series against Australia.
