IND vs SL: Matheesha Pathirana crashes into Hardik Pandya’s stumps with 151kph yorker – WATCH

New Delhi: Young Sri Lankan pace bowler Matheesha Pathirana bowled a decent spell against India in the first T20 International match played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Saturday. The 21-year-old picked four wickets although he was taken for runs by the opposition.

Pathirana mustered figures of 4 for 40 from his four overs on a day India posted a mammoth total of 213 for 7 in the first innings.  He claimed the important wickets of Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Riyan Parag and Rishabh Pant.

A thunderbolt yorker featuring 151kph speed flicked Hardik’s pads before crashing into the Indian all-rounder’s stumps. It was a treat to watch for any spectator as Pathirana dismissed Hardik for the second time in their battle.

Pathirana later denied Rishabh Pant to score his fourth T20I half-century as a slower ball deceived the Indian wicketkeeper-batter while he attempted to play a slog. As a result, Pant’s off-stump was rattled. Earlier in the game, the Lasith Malinga like-a-like pacer trapped Suryakumar Yadav and Riyan Parag before the wickets in a similar fashion, keeping the ball straight.

India cross 200 with impressive contributions

Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (40 runs off 21 balls) and Shubman Gill (34 runs off 16 balls) gave India a brisk start before Suryakumar and Pant carried forward the baton. Playing in his first match as the captain of India’s T20I team, Suryakumar hit half-century to make the ocassion special, hammering eight boundaries and two sixes at strike rate over 200.

Pant played some delightfule strokes in the middle, efficiently timing the ball with his wrist technique. He slogged, heaved and also tossed his bat in the air while hitting a boundary off Pathirana just a ball before his dismissal. Axar Patel’s six on the final ball of the innings put India in a commanding position.
