New Delhi: Team India skipper Rohit Sharma is on the verge of surpassing Rahul Dravid in an elite list in the 2nd ODI against Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday, August 04. Rohit made his return for India in the series opener between the two teams at the same venue on Friday. Playing his first game since India’s T20 World Cup triumph, Rohit slammed a brilliant knock of 58 runs in the match.
However, the Indian skipper’s knock went in vain as the 1st ODI ended up getting tied after India failed to get over the line in the 231-run chase. Nonetheless, it was a thumping comeback from Rohit, who continued his swashbuckling approach at the top and toyed with the Sri Lankan bowling attack. The Hitman will be hoping to continue his purple patch in the 2nd ODI on Sunday.
Rohit is on the verge of overtaking former India batter Rahul Dravid on the list of India’s leading run-getters of all time in ODIs. Rohit currently has 10767 runs to his name in 263 matches in ODIs at an average of 49.16, including 31 centuries and 56 fifties. He needs only 2 runs in the 2nd ODI against Sri Lanka to go past Dravid, who finished with 10768 from 340 matches at an average of 39.15, including 82 fifties and 13 hundreds.
Rohit set to become India’s 4th highest run-getter in ODIs
One of India’s most successful openers in T20Is, Rohit will surpass Dravid to become India’s 4th highest run-getter of all time in ODIs. He will stand only behind the likes of Sourav Ganguly (11,221), Virat Kohli (13,872) and the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who is the leading run-getter of all time in ODIs with 18,426 runs from 463 matches.
Rohit has already retired from T20Is after leading India to glory in the T20 World Cup 2024 but still has a lot of cricket left in him. He will continue playing Tests and ODIs for the Men in Blue and is already confirmed to lead India in the Champions Trophy 2025 next year. With the Sri Lanka series being India’s last ODI assignment in 2024, Rohit will hope to make the most of it and gear up for the remainder of the season.
Captain Rohit Sharma needs only 2 runs to go past Rahul Dravid in an elite list for Team India in the 2nd ODI against Sri Lanka. The 2nd ODI between India and Sri Lanka will be played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday.
