New Delhi: India got off to a winning start in the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025 after thrashing West Indies by 9 wickets at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Sunday. Bowlers produced a stellar show as India bundled out West Indies for a paltry 44 before chasing down the low-key target inside just 4.2 overs to record a dominant victory.
India U19 skipper Niki Prasad won the toss and opted to bowl first in the game before the bowlers got the team off to a dream start. Pace all-rounder Joshitha VJ ran through West Indies’ top order before Parunika Sisodia and Aayushi Shukla combined to wreak havoc. Sisodia picked up a three-wicket haul while Joshitha and Shukla picked up two wickets apiece as West Indies were skittled out for 44 in just 13.2 overs.
West Indies batting line-up collapsed like a pack of cards as none of their batters managed to withhold pressure amid a relentless bowling effort from India. Barring opener Asabi Callendar (12) and Kenika Cassar (15) none of the other batters managed to score in double digits for West Indies as they lost 9 wickets inside 34 runs after a 10-run opening stand between Callendar and skipper Samara Ramnath (3).
In reply, India chased down the target of 45 runs without breaking a sweat to complete a thumping victory. India lost opener Gongadi Trisha cheaply on 4 off 2 balls in the very first over but wicket-keeper batter G Kamalini and Sanika Chalke combined to take the team home with an unbeaten 43-run stand for the second wicket.
Kamalini scored 16 off 13 balls while Chalke remained unbeaten on 18 off 11 balls laced with three fours as India raced to victory in just 4.2 overs.
