New Delhi: India pacer Arundhati Reddy has been reprimanded and has been handed one demerit point for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 match against Pakistan that was played in Dubai on Sunday. She was found breaching the code for her aggressive send-off to Nida Dar, who was one of the three wickets that she picked during the first innings.
The incident happened during the final over of Pakistan’s innings when Reddy pointed towards the pavillion after dismissing the former Pakistan skipper. This is only her first offence in the two-year period that the ICC specifies for handing demerit points. A total of four such demerit points in Arundhati’s or any other player’s disciplinary record, in this period, will eventually lead to a match ban.

What does the ICC rule say?
The ICC release stated that “She was found to violate Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match.”
The charges against her were levelled by on-field umpires Eloise Sheridan and Lauren Agenbag, third umpire Jacquline Williams and fourth umpire Claire Polosak. Reddy accepted the sanction proposed by Shandre Fritz of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, after admitting to the offence. Therefore there was no need for a formal hearing as she did not challenge the decision.
It is noteworthy that the Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum penalty of 50 percent of a player’s match fee and one or two demerit points.
This will be a bittersweet moment for Arundhati as she was adjudged the Player of the Match for her career-best 3/19. Her efforts powered India to clinch their first victory of the marquee event in Dubai after a humbling at the hands of New Zealand in the opener.
