New Delhi: The third Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy between Australia and India ended in a draw at The Gabba in Brisbane on Wednesday, December 18. Apart from Day 2, the remaining four days of the match were affected by the heavy rain.
The five-match Test series is still levelled at 1-1. The Men in Blue won the opening Test match of the series by 295 runs in Perth but the hosts made a brilliant comeback and won the second pink-ball Test by 10 wickets at the Adelaide Oval.
The Aussies carried the momentum into the third Test as Steve Smith and Travis Head notched up stunning hundreds. Australia scored 445 runs in the first innings and then bowled India out for 260 runs. Rohit and Co. avoided the follow on Day 4 after Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah forged a 47-run partnership for the 10th wicket.
The Aussies declared their second innings on 87 runs. With a minimum of 54 overs left in the day’s play, Jaiswal and Rahul batted for only 2.1 overs but after that, the play was stopped due to the bad light and the match was called off as the rain got heavier in Brisbane.
Now the focus shifts to the fourth Test, which is crucial for the series and World Test Championship (WTC) final race. The Men in Blue need to win the remaining two games of the series to qualify for the WTC final.
