New Delhi: Rohit Sharma-led India will look to kick off their Test season with a win when they take on Bangladesh in a two-match series starting Thursday, September 19. The first Test will be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai followed by the second game at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. Indian players are currently preparing for the series in the national camp in Chennai.
The series will mark Indian wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant’s return to Test cricket after 20 months. Pant’s last Test appearance for India came in December 2022 before he sustained serious injuries in a horrific car crash. The left-hander made his comeback for India in the T20 World Cup earlier this year and has already proven his form and fitness.
Virat Kohli will make his comeback to Test cricket in the two-match series. The senior India batter had pulled out from India’s Test series against England at home earlier this year due to the birth of his son. KL Rahul is also back in the Test setup for the Bangladesh series after missing the majority of the England series due to an injury.
While India have named a strong batting line-up for the series, they have also fielded a star-studded bowling attack in the absence of senior pacer Mohammed Shami. Jasprit Bumrah is back in the mix after a well-deserved break and will be partnered by the likes of Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep in the pace attack. Young left-arm pacer Yash Dayal has been handed his maiden call-up for the series.
Meanwhile, R Ashwin will reunite with Ravindra Jadeja to lead the spin attack alongside Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel. Jadeja and Axar along with Ashwin will also strengthen India’s all-rounders’ department and will look to contribute with the bat when required. India will hope to clean sweep the series to keep their home dominance intact and retain their top spot on the World Test Championship (WTC) points table.
