New Delhi: It was disappointment for Indian archers Harvinder Singh and Pooja Jatyan as they went down fighting in a closely-fought bronze medal match in the recurve mixed team open category at the Paris Paralympics. The Indian pair of Harvinder and Pooja faced 4-5 defeat against Slovenia’s Ziva Lavrinc and Dejan Fabcic in the contest.
The Slovenian pair, who bagged their first medal in archery at the Paralympics, had earlier lost to Turkiye 4-5 in the other semifinal. After taking the first set 36-31, Mijno and Travisani nailed four 10s in a row in the second set to race to a 4-0 lead. The Indian pair fought back when they hit two 9s to take a two-point lead at the halfway mark of the third set.
Pooja then came up with a perfect 10 in her final arrow before Harvinder hit the 9-ring to take the third set 37-35 and reduce the deficit to 2-4. But the top-seeded Italians held their nerve, allowing the Indians no further leeway as they dropped just two points to narrowly edge them out 38-37, securing their place in the final.

Indian pair lose in shoot-off
It was heartbreak for the Indian pair as they lost in the shoot off after failing to capitalise on a 4-2 initial lead. The match went right down to the end as both the sides were putting up equally strong performances after India took off. But the Slovakia pair showed nerves of steel at the end to the bag the third place on the podium. Indian archers finished at the fourth place.
Earlier, the Indian archers fought hard before going down against top seeds Elisabetta Mijno and Stefano Travisani 2-6 in the semifinals of the recurve mixed team open category.
