India’s defence exports jump tenfold to Rs 21k cr in 10 years: Rajnath Singh

India’s defence exports, which was at the level of Rs 2,000 crore a decade ago has now sailed past Rs 21,000 crore, defence minister Rajnath Singh said on December 30, 2024. The target now is to push it beyond Rs 50,000 crore by 2029. He revealed the data when addressing officers at the Army War College (AWC).

“Our defence exports, which were around Rs 2,000 crore a decade ago, have crossed the record figure of Rs 21,000 crore today. We have set an export target of Rs 50,000 crore by 2029,” Singh said, emphasising the defence exports are also paving the way for increased acceptance of the Made-in-India equipment. He was on a tour of the Mhow Cantonment in Madhya Pradesh.

Marshalling frontier technology need of the hour

The defence minister emphasised how staying abreast and marshalling frontier technologies for the defence sector is the need. This is an integral part of making the soldiers ready for any future challenge. Defence minister Singh said the government of Narendra Modi is committed to strengthening integration among the three services. “In the times to come, the armed forces will be able to face challenges together in a better and more efficient way,” he remarked.

Role of defence attache

The defence minister also said that in the days to come some officers will work as defence attaches. One of their responsibilities will be to attempt to secure national interests at the global level. “When you take up this post of defence attaches, you should imbibe the government’s vision of ‘aatmanirbhar Bharat’. Only through self-reliance can India strengthen its defence capabilities and gain more respect on the world stage,” said Rajnath Singh.
Emphasising the connection between military power and economic power, the defence minister said, “Economic prosperity is possible only when full attention is paid to security. Similarly, the security system will be robust only when the economy is strong. Both complement each other.”

Singh said high-level training is offered to officers in the Mhow Cantonment. He urged officers to explore whether it is possible to enhance integration through weapons training in Infantry School and AI and communication technology in Military College of Telecommunication Engineering.

Defence exports constitute an area of increasing competitiveness for Indian manufacturing as well apart from recording rising strength of the defence sector, defence minister Rajnath Singh said. He also spoke on the role of defence attaches.  Biz News Business News – Personal Finance News, Share Market News, BSE/NSE News, Stock Exchange News Today
