New Delhi: The Indian compound archers shone at the Archery World Cup Stage 2, winning a gold, silver, and bronze each in the team events held in Pudong, Shanghai on Saturday. The major highlight of the medal rush was the gold clinched by the men’s team, which comprised Abhishek Verma, Ojas Deotale, and Rishabh Yadav, who downed Mexico 232-228 in a nerve-wracking final.

In the first end, India grabbed a strong start by taking a two-point lead with a near-flawless 59, which Mexico replied with 57. They fought back in the second end with 58, while India could manage 56 to level the affair at 115-115 at the halfway stage. The third end saw India edging with 58 as Mexico posted 57, giving the Indians a slender lead of 173-172.

The Indian troika held its nerves in the fourth and final end, as they shot a superb 59 to seal the gold, with Mexico managing only 56. Post the emphatic win, the trio struck their trademark poses for pictures and looked excited on top of the podium while receiving the elusive gold medals. It all followed with India’s national anthem, which echoed the land of China, making it a moment of great pride and joy for the nation.
