India’s Paralympic champs Sumit Antil, Nishad Kumar felicitated by Adidas in Delhi

New Delhi: India’s Paralympic heroes Sumit Antil and Nishad Kumar were honoured and felicitated by Adidas India during a homecoming event organised for the duo at the DLF Promenade Mall in Vasant Kunj, New Delhi on Monday. The event celebrated their triumphant return after Sumit defended his gold medal in the F64 category of men’s javelin throw while Nishad retained his silver in the T47 category of high jump at the Paris Paralympics 2024.

The event was aimed at supporting the growth of sports in India across all levels, particularly focusing on nurturing future athletes. Many young para-athletes were invited to the event where they engaged in meaningful conversations with their Paralympic heroes. The GM of adidas India, Neelendra Singh, held an engaging session where both athletes shared their personal journeys and the challenges that they faced in representing India at a global level.

Recognising their spirit and potential, Singh said that the brand has always believed in empowering athletes with a positive mindset to perform their best. He called it a proud moment as he welcomed Sumit and Nishad back home after their scintillating performances at the Paralympics 2024. Singh also highlighted their relentless dedication which has been a key in them overcoming the negative pressure and bringing home the shining medals, also announcing the brand’s new association with the two.

What did the Paralympians say?

Sumit, who is a two-time gold medallist at the Paralympics, shared his excitement saying, “It has been a dream come true, to have won the gold medal for India at such an esteemed stage.” He added that the journey hasn’t been easy for him and that it is the belief of his family, friends, his coach, and his love for the sport that has helped him in believing in his game and battling the pressure.

Nishad, who is now a two-time silver medallist at the Paralympics, also shared his excitement saying, “Bringing home a medal for India at the Paralympics 2024 has been a testament to the relentless effort and the incredible support I have received.”
