IndiGo flight feature: Women can book seats next to female flyers

New Delhi: Budget carrier IndiGo has rolled out a special feature for women flyers by allowing them an opportunity to choose a seat next to another female passenger while doing their web check-in. This feature is expected to be especially useful for solo women flyers. Women who plan to fly IndiGo will be able to see the seats booked by other female passengers during web check-in. The feature has been designed after a market survey, said IndiGo in an official statement. The move reflects the airliné’s commitment to women’s safety and comfort, it added.

The move also follows a string of in-flight incidents wherein women were at the receiving end of misbehaviour and abuse by co-passengers. From an incident of urination by a male passenger in a female co-passenger on an Air India flight to 2 instances of misbehaviour with women involving sexual harassment and groping on IndiGo flights on the Delhi-Mumbai and Mumbai-Guwahati routes respectively, that were reported last year.

How does the feature work?

As stated above, the feature is only available on web check-in, which means it is unlikely to be offered on airport check-in. To be sure, the feature is still in testing mode. Women passengers can web check in on their selected flights using their smartphone or via a computer system. Passenger web check-in opens 48 hours prior to scheduled departure for domestic flights. However, passengers can also complete this process up to 2 hours prior to flying. The web check-in window shuts down 2 hours prior to the flight departure.

Web check-in timings differ slightly for international flights since they open 24 hours prior to scheduled departure and close up to 1 hour prior to the time of departure. The feature works on passenger name records of female flyers and is available to both solo and family flyers. The move is part of the airline’s #GirlPowerEthos motto, IndiGo said in an official statement.

Budget carrier IndiGo is now planning to roll out a feature allowing women to book flights next to other women passengers during web check-in. This feature is aimed at ensuring women’s safety and comfort.  Biz News Business News – Personal Finance News, Share Market News, BSE/NSE News, Stock Exchange News Today
