New Delhi: Opener Prabhsimran Singh and left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh played starring roles as Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) comprehensively by 37 runs to jump to the second spot on the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 points table. It was Punjab Kings’ second victory in a row as they inch closer to securing a spot in the playoffs this season.
It was a clinical all-round display from Punjab Kings in their first game of the season at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala as they rode on Prabhsimran’s quickfire 91 off 48 balls to post a strong total of 236 runs on the board, before restricting LSG to 199/7 in 20 overs to secure a commanding victory. Arshdeep shone with the new ball to turn the game in PBKS’ favour with a sensational spell in the Powerplay.
Arshdeep ran through LSG’s top order with a three-wicket haul, dismissing the dangerous trio of Mitchell Marsh, Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram in his first two overs. He removed Marsh on a duck to draw the first blood for Punjab in the 3rd over before getting rid of Markram three balls later. He returned to trap the dangerous Pooran lbw on 6 off just 5 balls, leaving LSG reeling on 27/3 in the fifth over.
Punjab Kings rode on a fabulous knock of 91 runs from Prabhsimran Singh and a brilliant spell from Arshdeep Singh to beat Lucknow Super Giants by 37 runs and jump to the 2nd spot on the IPL 2025 points table.
