New Delhi: The Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction was the most lavish event held in the history of the tournament with a whopping sum of INR 639.15 crore was showered by all 10 teams to purchase a total of 182 players across two days in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Indian internationals Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, and Venkatesh Iyer were the top-drawers with the trio breaching the 20-crore mark, which is the first instance in any auction after Australian duo of Mitchell Starc (INR 24.75 crore) and Pat Cummins (INR 20.50 crore) started the trend last year.
Pant broke the record for the most expensive player of the IPL auction after Lucknow Super Giants purchased the wicketkeeper-batter for a lucrative deal of INR 27 crore. Shreyas was just behind his former Delhi Capitals teammate as Punjab Kings shelled out INR 26.75 crore to secure his signature.
With the batters headlining the auction charts, there were bowlers who invoked interests among franchises and returned with big bucks in the two-day event. Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal became the most expensive spinner in the chronicles of the auction with PBKS purchasing him for a whopping amount of INR 18 crore.
Let’s take a quick look at the fast bowlers who made the best price in the IPL 2025 auction.
1. Arshdeep Singh
Young Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh was the first player to go under the hammer in the IPL mega auction. He attracted a massive bidding war with as many as six teams in the race for his signature. In the end, his home-grown franchise Punjab Kings matched the highest bid of INR 18 crore by exercising the right-to-match (RTM) option to retain him.
2. Trent Boult
New Zealand speedster Trent Boult has returned back to Mumbai Indians after four years. The left-arm quick was purchased for a huge price of INR 12.50 crore, making him the joint-second expensive fast bowler in the IPL auction 2025. He has played for five teams in the IPL since making debut in 2015.
3. Jofra Archer
England pace bowler Jofra Archer has also returned back to his old IPL team – Rajasthan Royals – for a price of INR 12.50 crore. Despite his injury concerns in the last few years, and dipping performance in the IPL, the Barbados-born fast bowler still remains in demand among the IPL teams.
4. Josh Hazlewood
Josh Hazlewood continued the trend of fast bowlers returning to their previous IPL franchises as Royal Challengers Bengaluru finalised the 33-year-old quick’s deal at INR 12.50 crore. This came a year after he went unsold in the min-auction in Dubai.
5. Mohammed Siraj
Indian speedster Mohammed Siraj is among the most expensive fast bowlers to have a new IPL team. The Hyderabad-born speedster will don the Gujarat Titans shirt in IPL 2025 after the CVC Capital Partners-owned team bought the 30-year-old for a sum of INR 12.25 crore.
