New Delhi: Perseverance finally paid off as the Royals Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) lifted their maiden IPL trophy on Tuesday after beating Punjab Kings in the summit clash of the 2025 edition in Ahmedabad. The game, that became a bit interesting towards the end after one-sided middle overs, saw the Royal Challengers have the last laugh.
Star batter Virat Kohli was visibly emotional at the iconic Narendra Modi stadium as he burst into tears after his side bagged the coveted trophy after 18 long years of wait. RCB, the much deserving side in the competition, kept their nerves till the last moment to clinch a victory which etched their names in the history books. RCB were able to breach the fortress in their fourth attempt after having failed to lift the title in 2016, 2011 and 2009.
Meanwhile, after the champions celebrated for more than an hour on the ground, the moment finally came when they lifted the trophy presented to the skipper Rajat Patidar by ICC chief Jay Shah and BCCI head Roger Binny. Patidar was soon joined by his teammates as the reds celebrated with the prestigious silverware. While Kohli was spotted kissing the trophy, others in the camp danced as they posed in front of the cameras. Kohli also became the highest boundary scorer in the history of the cash-rich league.
