In the most recent franchise cricket outing in SA20, Brevis was the sixth-highest run-scorer with 291 at a strike rate of 184.17. His batting heroics helped MI Cape Town win their maiden title. Brevis will join CSK for Rs 2.2 crore.

“Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have signed South Africa’s Dewald Brevis as a replacement for the injured Gurjapneet Singh for the remainder of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025,” the IPL said in a media statement.

Can Brevis live up to billing in his second IPL innings

Brevis, 21, has featured in IPL before, playing for Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2022 and 2024. In 10 matches, Brevis scored 230 runs and picked up a wicket. With no 50+ score, the young dasher failed to live up to his potential for the Mumbai-based franchise.

Overall, he has aggregated 1787 runs, with a highest of 162, in 81 T20s.

He is nicknamed ‘Baby AB’ for the similarity of his looks and playing style to the iconic Proteas batter AB de Villiers, who is a household name in India due to his heroics in IPL for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru franchise.
