New Delhi: In the history of IPL, this is the second time that an IPL auction is set to be held outside India. The first time IPL auction was held in the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai in 2023 and now for the second consecutive time, IPL auction is all set to be held in Abady Al Johar Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on November 24, Sunday.
Saudi Arabia has now become the hub of the sporting world as after Football, boxing, UFC, and WWE, now Cricket event is set to be held in Saudi Arabia. The Abady Al Johar Arena is a state-of-the-art venue for any event.
Abady Al Johar arena has witnessed many big events like Tamer Ahour’s live performance in Jeddah who is a popular Egyptian singer. The arena has a capacity of 15,000 people. The Cricket will also enhance its global presence in hosting its event in Saudi Arabia.
BCCI shortlisted Riyadh as the IPL mega auction venue but due to logistical problems, they changed the venue to Jeddah. Abadi Al-Johar Arena is 10 minutes away from Universal Hotel Shangri-la.
UAE has been a regular host for cricket events of IPL and now IPL moving to Saudi Arabia will also enhance the sport on a global stage. Mallika Sagar will be the auctioneer for the IPL mega auction after auctioning the previous mini-auction.
Big stars to fetch big bucks
Many big stars will make their way to the mega auction. IPL franchises released some of their stars ahead of the mega auction. Three IPL franchises released their skipper before the auction. Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and defending champion KKR’s skipper Shreyas Iyer were also released by their respective teams.
There are 12 marquee players in the auction list including Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, and some International stars like Jos Buttler, Kagiso Rabada, and Liam Livingstone.
