New Delhi: Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold will be missing the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final clash against Tottenham on Thursday. Alexander-Arnold was substituted in 70 minutes during the Reds win against Bournemouth on the weekend due to a seemingly thigh injury.
Liverpool won the EFL Cup last season with Jurgen Klopp in his final season at the helm of the Reds. However, they will be coming to the game with a 1-0 goal deficit, losing the first leg against Lillywhites at Anfield. Slot before the game stated that Alexander-Arnold would be missing the game.

His side will then take on Plymouth during the fourth round of the FA Cup round four on Sunday before their Wednesday’s Merseyside derby clash against Everton which was rescheduled due to storm Darragh. The game will be the final time Liverpool will play at the Goodison Park as Everton shift their base to a new venue next season.
Slot though didn’t confirm or deny if the 26-year-old will be available for the FA Cup clash. The Dutch manager mentioned that Alexander-Arnold had left the pitch in pain but he was training although not with the team but with the rehab coach and didn’t give an exact timeline for the English international’s return.
Conor Bradley had replaced Alexander-Arnold in the game against the Cherries and having already started in the first leg of the semifinal is set to start against Tottenham again on Wednesday. Another option for Slot could be Joe Gomez who is returning from a hamstring injury.
Liverpool’s no-show in the winter transfer window
Liverpool are currently at the top of the Premier League table and were the first team to qualify for the knockout stage in the UEFA Champions League this season as well. In the January transfer period, the Reds didn’t make any new signings. When asked about it, Slot noted that he had a good squad at his disposal and the results show that the side has been able to repay the faith that the top management has shown on him.
Further Slot felt that being without any long-term injuries doesn’t force them into the market. Currently, though the Reds do have a contract renewal issue with Alexander-Arnold along with Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, who are all in the final six months of their contract with the side. There hasn’t been any development for either of the three players.
