New Delhi: Mumbai Indians notched up their sixth consecutive victory with a 100-run win over Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on Sunday to shoot up to the top of the IPL 2025 standings.
They lost the toss but powered by half centuries from Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton backed by unbeaten 48 not outs from Suryakumar Yadav and skipper Hardik pandya took them to a healthy 217 for two.
Mumbai’s formidable bowling attack then ran through the Rajasthan batting line-up as they were shot out for 117 in 16.1 overs.
Trent Boult (3/28), Karn Sharma (3/23) and Jasprit Bumrah (2/15) took wickets at regular intervals as lower middle order batter Jofra Archer (30) was the top scorer for Rajasthan.
Mumbai are now on top of th 10-team standings due to a superior run rate over Royal Challengers Bengaluru though both have 14 points. Mumbai have played a game more than the RCB.
Rohit, Rickelton slam fifties
Earlier, Mumbai got a rock-solid start through their openers Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton, who both scored fine half centuries as Mumbai Indians posted 217 for two.
Rajasthan won the toss and sent Mumbai to bat as Sharma (53 off 36 balls) and Rickelton (61 off 38) raced away to a 116-run opening wicket partnership.
When they departed within five balls of each other, Suryakumar Yadav (48 not out off 23) and captain Hardik Pandya (48 not out off 23) took over the run-making charge, plundering 71 runs in the last five overs.
Sharma and Rickelton took Mumbai to 58 for no loss in the powerplay. During their century-stand, Rickelton cored heavily off the seamers while Sharma was in punishing mode against the spinners, particularly Maheesh Theekshana.
When on 29, the right hander completed 6000 runs for Mumbai in T20 tournaments, becoming the second batter after Virat Kohli to reach the mark for a T20 franchise.
The 38-year-old also completed 3,000 runs as an opener in the IPL, reaching the mark with his 12th run in the match. He was criticised for a string of low scores in his first five matches but he has turned it around, scoring three fifties in his last five games.
