New Delhi: Punjab Kings (PBKS) will square off with Mumbai Indians (MI) in Qualifier 2 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. The two teams will engage in a fierce battle for a spot in the final, where they will be up against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the same venue on Tuesday, June 3.
However, the city of Ahmedabad is expected to witness a bit of rain during the day, as this was the case on the eve of the match as well, due to which PBKS couldn’t complete their practice session. Fans are wondering if rain could play spoilsport in the all-important clash, which sends one team to the final and eliminates the other.
If weather.com is to be believed, it will be a hot and humid day in Ahmedabad but right ahead of the start of the match, there are slight chances of rain at around 5 pm. This inclement weather can delay the start of the match, and if the game doesn’t begin at all or say gets washed out, the team finishing higher in the points table will progress to the final, according to the playing conditions of the IPL. For the uninitiated, there isn’t any reserve day for the clash as well.
“If conditions do not permit a Super Over, or subsequent Super Overs within the time available to determine the winner then the team which, at the end of the relevant regular Season, finished in the higher position in the League will be deemed the winner of the relevant play-off match,” read the playing conditions for IPL 2025.

Extra time added
Therefore, if Qualifier 2 gets abandoned due to rain, it will mean Punjab Kings (1st) will be moving to the summit final clash as they finished above Mumbai Indians (4th) in the points table. But… there isn’t so much rain on the cards that is capable of washing out the game, as the weather is expected to open up after the slight drizzle, bringing favourable playing conditions.
To add a further layer of safety to the playoff games so that rain doesn’t affect them, the IPL Governing Council recently allocated an additional two hours for the completion of the game in the playoffs. This gives the groundsmen ample time to make the field ready for the resumption of matches in case they are affected by the poor weather.
Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians are all set to meet in the IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. There are slight chances of rain during the fixture which brings a washout on the cards as well. What does the playing conditions say in such a scenario?
