New Delhi: Mumbai Indians (MI) propelled to the top of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 points table after defeating Rajasthan Royals (RR) by a huge margin of 100 runs at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Thursday. It was a sixth consecutive win for the five-time champions and a seventh overall in the season, while the home side endured their eighth loss of the campaign.

After the win, MI also extended a mighty winning streak in the IPL, keeping their record firm, neat and tidy, without any blot. Inviting the visitors to bat first, the Rajasthan bowling attack leaked 217 runs in 20 overs, taking just two wickets. The top four Mumbai batters shone as openers Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma hit fifties, partnering for 116 runs for the opening wicket.

After their departure, skipper Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav guided the team above 200, with twin and unbeaten 23-ball 48-run knocks. In response, Rajasthan never looked in for a run-chase as their batting prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi went for a two-ball duck, followed by the rest of their batting order. The team was wrapped up for 117 in 16.1 overs and were officially eliminated from the playoffs race.

The Mumbai-based franchise, however, recorded their 17th straight win in the IPL, while defending a total of 200+. In what can be termed as an exceptional feat, whenever the Mumbai Indians have scored 200 or above batting first in the IPL, they have always been successfully able to defend the strong total. It has happened 17 times in the cash-rich league, the last instance being their emphatic win over RR on Thursday.

It was also the first win for MI against RR in Jaipur since 2012, after four consecutive losses, and also their third biggest win margin (by runs) in the IPL. They have also matched their previous two instances of registering six wins on the trot in the tournament – in 2008, 2017, and now in 2025. MI sits on top with seven wins in 11 games, suffering only four losses and boasting 14 points.

Meanwhile, RR are eighth in the table rankings with just three wins in 11 fixtures, having lost eight and collecting only six points. RR next face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on May 4, while MI will be up against Gujarat Titans (GT) on May 6.

Mumbai Indians registered their seventh win of the IPL 2025 on Thursday, successfully defending a 200+ total and maintaining a mighty streak while routing Rajasthan Royals out of the tournament.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
