IPL 2025: Rishabh Pant’s cheap dismissal against Punjab Kings triggers memefest on social media

New Delhi: Rishabh Pant, the costliest player in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history, suffered yet another failure in IPL 2025, raising concerns among the franchise fans about his worrying slump in form. The 27 crore buy at the IPL 2025 mega-auction was dismissed for just 2 runs in the ongoing match between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.

Pant, switching his allegiance to LSG for a whopping Rs 27 crore, has failed to stamp his authority as a captain and a batter. After scores of 0 and 15 in LSG’s opening two games, expectations of a comeback-knock were high among the Lucknow supporters at the franchise’s home ground. But the euphoria on Pant’s arrival at the crease quickly faded with his wicket in the fifth over of the match.

Pant’s misery continues

Coming to bat after the loss of two early wickets, Pant wasted a golden opportunity to wrest back control after being dismissed cheaply by PBKS’ part-time bowler Glenn Maxwell. Pant was dismissed on a ball that he would hit out of the park nine out of 10 times, but when things are not going your way, even a half-tracker outside leg can lead to the downfall.

That’s exactly what happened with Pant, who hit a short ball straight to short fine leg and trudged back to the pavillion, kicking himself. Following his dismissal, netizens started a memefest on social media.

Earlier, Punjab Kings won the toss and opted to field first at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, which is hosting its first match of the season. Kiwi pacer Lockie Ferguson made his debut for the Punjab Kings while the Super Giants named an unchanged playing XI.

LSG skipper Rishabh Pant, who is the costliest player in IPL history, suffered third successive failure in the Indian Premier League 2025 edition.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
