Veteran batter Rohit Sharma missed out on Mumbai Indians’ match against Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Friday.
Rohit, the former captain of the five-time champions, played the first three matches, including one as an Impact Player, for the Mumbai-based franchise. He failed to fire with the bat in all three fixtures.
Mumbai are aiming to register their second win of the season after getting off the mark in their previous tie against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). After starting the season with two successive losses, Mumbai are looking to get their season back on track, and Rohit’s absence, despite his poor form, will be a big blow. Rohit has scored 0, 8 and 13 in the three matches he has played so far.
Why is Rohit not playing against LSG?
The India skipper, who was used as an Impact Sub against KKR in MI’s previous match, missed the match after he was hit on the knee during a nets session. Mumbai captain Hardik Pandya confirmed the development during the coin toss.
“Rohit got hit in the knee in nets and he misses out,” Pandya said at the toss.
Pandya also spoke about the availability of MI pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who has been out of action since January. Bumrah is reportedly close to returning to competitive cricket after making good progress in the rehab, but his availability in MI’s next two matches is completely out of question.
“He should be back soon.”
Meanwhile, India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav recieved a special jersey for his 100th appearance for Mumbai Indians.

Earlier, MI won the toss and elected to bowl against LSG at the Ekana Stadium. LSG made one change in the playing XI and brought in fit-again Akashdeep Singh in place of M Siddharth.
