IPL mega auction: Sam Curran sold for measly price to CSK, Marco Jansen goes to PBKS

New Delhi: England all-rounder Sam Curran on Monday was sold to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during the IPL 2025 mega auction held at the Abadi Al Johar Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The 26–year-old was roped in for a measly price of INR 2.40 crore.

Curran was part of the Set 14 where all the all-rounders registered for the auction were sold. The England international kept his base price at INR 2 crore and CSK was the first team to show interest for him. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) merely contended for the player’s signature. The RPSG-owned franchise bid at INR 2.20 crore but pulled out of the race after CSK extended the bid at INR 2.40 crore.

With no challenge from Lucknow, Chennai sealed the deal for Curran for a decent price given that he was the most expensive player in IPL 2023, attracting INR 18.50 crore from Punjab Kings, who showed no interest in using its right-to-match (RTM) card to hold back the T20 World Cup winner.

South Africa international Marco Jansen was sold to Punjab Kings for INR 7 crores. Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings, and Gujarat Titans were in race for the lanky all-rounder’s signature and after a round of an intense bidding, PBKS were successful in completing the deal.

Indian spin-bowling all-rounders Washington Sundar and Krunal Pandya were bought for reasonable prices of INR 3.20 crore and INR 5.75 crore by Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, respectively.

Nitish Rana, who kept his base price at INR 1.50 crore, was sold for 4.20 crore to Rajasthan Royals. In one of the shocking decisions from the auction, former CSK all-rounders Daryl Mitchell and Shardul Thakur went unsold. Interestingly, CSK weren’t even interested in retaining their core players.
