In the wake of an Israeli air attack on Iranian military targets, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has urged Iranian officials to formulate a clear strategy to showcase the nation’s power to Israel. This directive came during a statement on Sunday reported by the official IRNA news agency.
Khamenei emphasized the importance of a measured response, asserting that “the evil committed by the Zionist regime should neither be downplayed nor exaggerated.” He noted that the recent Israeli strikes, which targeted missile factories and military sites near Tehran and in western Iran, resulted in limited damage.
The Israeli military had conducted three waves of airstrikes early Saturday, prompting concerns over escalating tensions in the region. U.S. President Joe Biden has called for de-escalation to prevent further conflict.
In his remarks, Khamenei indicated that the appropriate means of demonstrating Iran’s strength should be determined by officials, prioritizing the interests of the Iranian people and the nation.
Rockets were launched into Israel from Lebanon on Sunday, but were intercepted by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), as reported by Associated Press. This incident follows extensive Israeli strikes on Iranian military installations, carried out in response to a ballistic missile attack launched by Iran on October 1.
The IDF reported that around 190 projectiles, allegedly fired by Hezbollah, were intercepted on Saturday night, with some causing small fires in the dry brush typical of early winter. The interceptions were visible from Israel’s Golan Heights region.
Early on Saturday, Israeli forces conducted ‘precise strikes on military targets in Iran’ in retaliation for Iran’s October 1 assault, according to officials who spoke to the Associated Press.
In an official statement, the Israeli military declared, “The regime in Iran and its proxies in the region have been relentlessly attacking Israel since October 7 – across seven fronts – including direct attacks from Iranian soil. Like every other sovereign country, the State of Israel has the right and duty to respond.”
