Is Alexander Isak losing his credibility due to injury problems?

New Delhi: Alexander Isak has suffered yet another injury! You just have to feel for the Swedish talent, as the forward only made his return this October, after he broke his toe back in the month of September, that sidelined him for more than a month. During that period, he missed out on seven games for both club and country. However, despite the fact that he has been the most influential and clinical player in Newcastle’s squad, ever since he made his permanent move to St. James’ Park, injuries have slowed down his progress.

Since the forward made his move from Real Sociedad, Isak has already missed out on a combined total of 193 days of football action. During that time, he has missed a total of 38 games for Swedish national side, as well as Newcastle. The things that the forward can do with the ball, with his scoring abilities, pace and acceleration, physicality, makes him a top prospect. However, over the last three seasons his development and potential hasn’t quite reached what everyone expected of him due to his injury problems.

What happened to Isak?

It’s only happened twice in 10 years… 😬

Just twenty-one minutes into their match against Crystal Palace, Newcastle United suffered a setback when Alexander Isak had to be replaced because of an injury. Although the extent of the injury is yet unknown, the Newcastle center-forward’s exit from the field didn’t seem good, especially because Liverpool was scheduled to arrive in the middle of the week. Tyrick Mitchell’s tackle ended the Swedish international’s game after he had only touched the ball three times. Isak was observed gripping his hip and had trouble moving freely minutes after the altercation.

Isak eventually gave the bench a signal that he needed to be replaced after getting treatment and trying to recover from the injury. The wounded Swede was replaced by Harvey Barnes since Callum Wilson was not yet well enough to play 70 minutes. As a result, Anthony Gordon was used in the center and Barnes moved to the right. As the hectic December time draws near, Eddie Howe may now have to deal with another possible layoff for Isak, just as Callum Wilson becomes available again.

Will this injury affect Isak’s relevance?

Ever since Isak made his move to Newcastle, he has proven himself to be a massive figure for Eddie Howe’s side. Last season, he had a total of 27 goal contributions in all competitions, with 21 league goals to his name, ranking him third in the top goal scorers list. Signs were looking good as he made 30 league appearances last season, despite the fact that he had missed a few games due to his Groin injury. However, last night’s injury gave a pretty bad impression, as this is the third time the fans witnessed him leaving the pitch this year.

With impending rumours of potential transfer talks with the Spanish giants, FC Barcelona, it will be interesting to see if Hansi Flick’s side are still willing to go all in for the forward. Over the past few seasons, the Swede has become more prone to injuries than ever and it is never a good sign to see a talented footballer go through this horrible stage. He has shown his vulnerabilities and it seems likely that this factor could stop his potential big transfers, with top European sides such as Arsenal and Barcelona all keeping a close eye to his situation at Newcastle.

Isak’s toe injury, which he got after being hurried back into action, has already cost him seven games this season for both side. Groin problems marred his tenure at Newcastle last season, keeping the squad from starting their best lineup for a long time. Last night, he left the pitch in the 22nd minute of the game, and it was clear that his absence caused a lot of problems for Newcastle. Even though Newcastle believed they had all three points against struggling hosts, the afternoon grew worse for them.

With just one shot on target, it was truly a shambolic attacking display from the Toons. However, Palace defender Marc Guehi put Anthony Gordon’s shot into his own net that gave Eddie Howe’s side a 1-0 lead in the 53rd minute.

The visitors appeared to have maintained the lead until Daniel Munoz stepped up and scored a spectacular last minute equalizer in the fourth minute of added time, to ruin Newcastle’s party as the two sides shared the spoils. Up next for Eddie Howe’s side, it’s the table toppers,  Liverpool. Isak’s possible absence could turn out to be a great news for Arne Slot.
