New Delhi: Playing in his first match for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan registered his maiden hundred in the tournament. He achieved the feat in the team’s first match of the season against Rajasthan Royals played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Sunday.
SRH were invited to bat first after Rajasthan Royals stand-in skipper Riyan Parag opted to field first at the toss. Ishan walked in to bat in the fourth over of the innings following the departure of opener Abhishek Sharma (24 runs off 11 balls). The southpaw started his innings with a dot ball against leg-spinner Maheesh Theekshana.
But from the very next ball he adopted the SRH mantra of batting – which is maximising the runs in the powerplay – and charging against the bowler. A boundary through an outside edge past the empty slip area was how Ishan got off to the mark. It followed with a straight down the wicket over the umpire’s head for successive fours against Theekshana.
In the start of the 13th over, Ishan smashed back-to-back sixes off Jofra Archer’s bowling to complete his maiden IPL fifty, which was achieved in 25 balls. He had to continue with a decent flow and kept fetching the opportunities to hit while batting with Nitish Reddy and Heinrich Klassen in the second half of the innings.
He swiped and swivelled across the crease against Sandeep Sharma in the penultimate over to clobber successive sixes over the deep backward square leg. He hit toward the long-off region on the last ball of the over to pick a couple of runs, which marked his first hundred in the IPL as his highest score was 99 for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2020. The player celebrated by jumping in ecstasy and the crowd applauded him for his blitzkrieg.

SRH post second highest total in IPL
Sunrisers Hyderabad ended their carnage with 286 for 6 on the scoreboard in the first innings riding on Ishan’s storm and opener Travis Head’s onslaught (67 runs in 31 balls). This was the second most total by a team in the IPL history, and interestingly, the Orange Army fell just one run short of their own record of 287 for 3 in IPL 2024.
Jofra Archer most expensive spell in IPL
England pace bowler Jofra Archer, who returned to Rajasthan Royals after a period of four years, recorded the most expensive bowling figures by a bowler in the IPL tournament. He conceded 76 runs from his four-over spell at an economy rate of 19. He surpassed Indian bowler Mohit Sharma’s figures of 0 for 73 in IPL 2024 match between Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals.
Ishan Kishan smashed a sparkling maiden IPL century on his Sunrisers Hyderabad debut against Rajasthan Royals, propelling SRH to 286/6. His innings, alongside Travis Head’s 67, helped SRH post the second-highest IPL total. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
