‘It is not right approach’: Robin Uthappa opposes Raina’s request to retire jersey no.18 & 45

New Delhi: After winning the T20 World Cup Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirement from T20I cricket. The Two Legends of Indian Cricket want the new players to take the team forward.

India defeated South Africa in the final and ended India’s long-standing ICC Trophy drought. Virat Kohli scored 76 runs off 59 balls and won the Player of the Match award for his contribution. At the same time, Indian Captain Rohit Sharma ended the tournament as the team’s leading run-scorer.

Rohit Sharma became the first captain to win the T20 World Cup without losing any match. He also became the oldest Indian captain to win any ICC tournament. After the match, both players announced their T20I retirement and former India cricketer Suresh Raina requested BCCI to retire their jerseys. But Robin Uthappa is not in favour of retiring jerseys and said that if you start retiring jerseys there would be no number left for the young players.

“If you start retiring jerseys, there would be no number left for the young players. They have already retired 10 and 7. If a young player wants 10 or 7, he can’t get it. It is not the right approach. The BCCI can hold back the iconic numbers and when a player comes who is worthy of donning one of the renowned numbers, he should be given that jersey number” Robin said.

Earlier Suresh Raina said that BCCI should retire jerseys no.18 and 45 and should keep these jerseys in their office so that every person who sees the number should get motivated.

“I request the BCCI to retire jerseys No.18 and No.45. They need to have a special occasion where they keep these jersey numbers in their office. The number 7 is already retired, they should do the same for 18 and 45. Every person who sees the number should get motivated”. Raina said on Jio Cinema.

‘We always wanted to win a World Cup’: Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli after the trophy parade said that he and Rohit trying to win the trophy for so long and it is a special feeling to bring the trophy back to Wankhede.

“Rohit and I, we’ve been trying this for so long. We always wanted to win a World Cup. Bringing the trophy back to Wankhede is a very special feeling. When I was walking up the stairs, I was crying. Rohit was crying. I will never forget that moment” Virat said.
