New Delhi: Former India chief selector MSK Prasad slammed captain Rohit Sharma for poor performance with the bat and also called his captaincy ‘pathetic’ in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Rohit returned to the top order in the fourth Test but only managed to score 3 runs.
He’s also getting a lot of criticism for his captaincy, with many experts raising questions about his bowling changes and field placements. The Indian captain missed the first Test in Perth which India won by 295 runs. Since his return in the day-night Test at the Adelaide Oval, Rohit has scored just 22 runs in four innings.
The Indian captain has been struggling to score runs in the longest format since the home Test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand. He has scored 610 runs in 14* Test matches at an average of 25.41 in 2024. India need to win the remaining two matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to directly qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) final. Team India is currently placed in third position on the WTC points table.
‘Rohit Sharma’s captaincy is pathetic in the series’: MSK Prasad
Former India selector MSK Prasad has called Rohit’s captaincy pathetic and said that heading into the Australia series India played a three-match series against New Zealand and lost 3 back-to-back matches at home which has never happened in the history of Indian cricket.
“He didn’t play the first game. Bumrah led the side very well, so Rohit comes after the backdrop of continuous failures,” MSK Prasad said while speaking on commentary on Day 2 of the Boxing Day Test.
He also highlighted Rohit’s recent performance as Indian captain after winning the T20 World Cup 2024. In Rohit’s leadership, Team India also suffered a historic ODI series defeat against Sri Lanka after 28 years.
“Rohit comes after a series of failures and that has clearly shown the way he led the side also he’s not proactive on many occasions” MSK Prasad added.
