New Delhi: An Income Tax payer can either file his Income Tax Return (ITR) himself or through various tax consultant platforms available online. Some people also take help of Chartered Accountants (CAs) for ITR filing. But CAs render their service at a price. Generally, a CA may charge in the range of Rs 1,500-2,000 for ITR filing. While, the online tax consultant platforms may charge in the range of Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 for ITR filing.

If you don’t want to pay the charges, then, you can simply perform ITR filing yourself on the income tax portal. Just follow the below given steps for ITR filing:

ITR filing on Income Tax Portal
Go to the official Income Tax e-filing website – https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/
You will have to login with your credentials
Enter your PAN in the User ID section
Click on ‘Continue’
Check the security message in the tickbox
Enter your password
Click on ‘Continue’
Go To ‘e-File’ section and put the cursor on ‘Income Tax Returns’
Then, click on ‘File Income Tax Return’
Select the relevant assessment year
Then, select the mode of filing as ‘Online’
Click on continue
Select the status as ‘Individual’ and click on ‘Continue’
Select the ITR Form Type you want to file
Then, you will have to select the reason for ITR filing
Select the appropriate option
After you have completed the verification process, click on Pay Now
Then, you will have to validate your ‘Pre-filled return’
You will have to validate following information
Personal Information
Gross Total Income
Total Deductions
Tax Paid
Total Tax Liability
Then, click on Proceed
Next step is to verify the taxes paid
After you have completed verification processs, a new message will be displayed that will state that you have successfully filed and verified your return.
The ITR filing 2024 deadline for FY24 and AY25 is July 31, 2024.
