ITR filing: ITR forms to helplines Nos – Important updates from Income Tax dept

New Delhi: The deadline for filing Income Tax Return (ITR) is July 31, 2024. As the deadline nears, the Income Tax (I-T) department apprises the taxpayers of the important updates related to ITRs like various types of forms, availability of e-pay Tax service and informing them about the helplines numbers through which they can solve their queries.

In an attempt to help taxpayers, I-T department has released tollfree helpdesk numbers (1800 103 0025 or 1800 419 0025) for solving any technical problem related to filing. People facing issues can also email to Efilingwebmanager@incometax.gov.in.

The Income Tax department has asked the taxpayers to compare the tax liability under the New Tax and Old Tax regime before filing of the return.

ITR-1, ITR-2, ITR-3, ITR-4, ITR-5, ITR-6 & ITR-7 for AY 2024-25 are enabled for filing in offline as well as Online mode at e-filing portal. Excel Utilities of ITR-1, ITR-2, ITR-3,ITR-4, ITR 5, ITR-6 and ITR-7 for AY 2024-25 are also live now, the I-T department has stated.

For filing ITR, users should use Edge, Chrome, or Firefox browsers.

According to the RBI Notification, in the case of non-individuals, a Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) No. is required for Credit of Refunds exceeding Rs 50 crore. For hassle-free refund processing, please submit LEI details in Login->Dashboard->Services->LEI.

e-Pay Tax service is now enabled for Bandhan Bank.

Tips on Online scams

The Income Tax department informed that more than 2.7 crore ITRs have been filed as on 14th July 2024, which is 13 per cent more compared to returns filed during the same period last year. While the milestone of filing of 1 crore of ITRs for AY 2024-25 arrived on 23rd June 2024, the 2 crore milestone arrived on 7th July which is also earlier than last year.

Taxpayers who miss the ITR filing deadline can still file a delayed return by December 31, 2024 by paying penalties between Rs 1,000 and Rs 10,000 depending on the duration of delay.
