‘It’s ridiculous’: England great slams BCCI over IPL 2025 auction’s clash with India-Australia 1st Test

New Delhi: Former England captain Michael Vaughan has slammed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (ICC) over the scheduling of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. Vaughan has criticised the BCCI for conducting the auction at the same time as the first Test between India and Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

The first Test between India and Australia in Perth will be played from Friday, November 22 to Tuesday, November 26. Meanwhile, the IPL 2025 mega auction will take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Sunday (November 24) and Monday (November 25). The auction will clash with the 1st Test and is expected to take some sheen away from the series opener between India and Australia.

Questioning BCCI’s decision to keep the IPL 2025 mega auction at the same as the Perth Test, Vaughan wondered why the Indian cricket board took a decision which would sway away the profile of the match. The former England captain also questioned the decision to not schedule the auction in the 9-day break between the first two Test matches between India and Australia.

“I don’t agree with the fact that they put the IPL auction in the middle of the first Test. I think it’s ridiculous. We’ve got a nine-day break in between the first and the second (Tests) why they’re putting it there when you know the players are under pressure playing in a Test match, why they’d want to sway the profile of that Test match onto an IPL auction in Saudi I’m not too sure,” Vaughan told Codesports.

Australia’s spin coach to miss 1st Test for IPL 2025 mega auction

Australia’s spin coach Daniel Vettori is set to give the Perth Test a miss owing to his commitments with IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Vettori is the head coach of the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL and will be travelling to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to take part in the two-day mega auction on Sunday and Monday. He will join the Australian team after the 1st Test.

Meanwhile, Ricky Ponting and Justin Langer, who were expected to be on the commentary duties in the 1st Test, will also have to miss the game as they will be travelling to Saudi Arabia for the IPL 2025 mega auction. Ponting is the head coach of the Punjab Kings while Langer is the head coach of the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction is all set to clash with the 1st Test between India and Australia in Perth which will get underway on Friday, November 22.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
