Singapore: A 31-year-old man, Muhammad Waliuddin Muhammad Adrian Rogelio Galaura, on August 19, 2024, has been sentenced to 8 years and 14 months in jail, and six strokes of the cane, for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl. The incident occurred in July 2021, when Waliuddin met the girl on a dating app and persuaded her to meet him in person.
According to court documents, Waliuddin took the girl to his home, where he sexually assaulted her and took photos and videos of the act. He later used these to blackmail her, threatening to post them online if she didn’t meet him again.
The girl eventually confided in a friend, who encouraged her to report the incident to the police. Waliuddin was arrested on August 17, 2021, and subsequently charged with sexual penetration of a minor, possessing videos of sex acts, and threatening to distribute an intimate image or recording.
During the hearing, Deputy Public Prosecutor Lim Ying Min stated the vulnerability of the victim due to her age and the high degree of exploitation. District Judge Eugene Teo took into account Waliuddin’s guilty plea and the fact that he was taking responsibility for his actions.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Lim Ying Min said that Waliuddin was 28 years old and was working as a cashier at a gaming shop when the incident happened. He met the victim on dating app Heymandi, and they started chatting. The girl told him she was 13 years old. They eventually chatted on Snapchat and WhatsApp, where they exchanged nude photos and videos.
Once the victim ignored his request to have sex again, he sent her a photo of a sex act she had performed on him. He threatened to post her intimate photos and videos on a pornographic website if she did not meet him within the week. She filed a complaint on August 16, 2021 and the accused was arrested the next day.
