Jasprit Bumrah as future Team India captain? Former cricketer answers big question

New Delhi: Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has made a sensational comeback in the team after returning from injury in August 2023. He was sidelined from the team due to a serious back injury and missed many big tournaments. He made a crucial contribution to Team India’s 2023 ODI World Cup campaign, taking 20 wickets in 11 matches.

The Indian speedster also played an important role in Team India’s T20 World Cup victory. Bumrah took 15 wickets in 8 matches with a brilliant economy rate of 4.17. He was also awarded the Player of the Match award for his consistent performance in the tournament.

As per the reports, Bumrah will miss the two-match Test series against Bangladesh and will be back in action during the three-match home Test series against New Zealand.

‘He needs to be protected as a player’: Dinesh Karthik

Bumrah led Team India in the one-off Test match against England and also captained the team to a 2-0 T20I series win against Ireland. Dinesh Karthik also agreed that he has all the elements to be a good captain but feels that he needs to protected as player and rejected the idea of Bumrah leading Team India in future.

“Everything is right He is calm, cool, good maturity, but he is a fast bowler, so how can we play him in all three formats? That is the biggest question the selectors would have had” Karthik said on Cricbuzz.

“For a fast bowler like Bumrah, his fitness needs to be monitored and he needs to be protected as a player and only made to play in important matches, I keep saying this about Bumrah, he is like a Kohinoor diamond, we got to protect him, take care of him, make sure that he lasts as long as possible because whenever Bumrah plays in any format he makes an impact and that’s what we want” he added.

The former cricketer addressed the possibility of Jasprit Bumrah captaining Team India in the future. The speedster has led the team in the past.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
