New Delhi: Team India pacer Jasprit Bumrah has added another feather to his illustrious cap by achieving a remarkable feat in international cricket. Bumrah was on top of his game during the recently concluded 1st Test between India and Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai where he picked up a total of five wickets.
Bumrah made full use of the pace-friendly conditions on the red soil pitch during Bangladesh’s first innings as he returned with brilliant figures of 4/50 off his 11 overs. The Indian pacer got the important wickets of Bangladesh opener Shadman Islam and veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim at the top before dismissing tail-enders Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud to skittle out the visitors for 149 runs in their 1st innings.
Bumrah managed only a solitary wicket during Bangladesh’s second innings as spinners dominated the proceedings. R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja picked up nine wickets between them to spin India to a thumping 280-run victory after blowing out Bangladesh for 234 in the massive 515-run chase in their second inning.
Nonetheless, five wickets were enough for Bumrah to beat the likes of Josh Hazlewood and Wanindu Hasaranga to become the leading wicket-taker across formats in international cricket in 2024. With 47 wickets from 14 matches, including 2 fifers and 2 four-wicket hauls, Bumrah is on the top of the wicket-taking charts in international cricket.

Bumrah has been retained in India’s squad for the second Test against Bangladesh at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. The pacer was expected to be given rest for the second game after the hosts’ went 1-0 up in the two-match series with a victory in Chennai. However, he will continue spearheading India’s pace attack in the final Test in Kanpur.
India will have to manage Bumrah’s workload wisely considering the long Test season ahead. India have to play nine more Test matches, including the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia in the remainder of the season. Bumrah will hope to continue his fine form with the ball in the 2nd Test against Bangladesh and add more wickets to his tally in international cricket in 2024.
