New Delhi: Indian pacer spreadhead Jasprit Bumrah, who proved to be India’s only silver lining in the recently-concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy, has been nominated for the Player of Month award for December. Bumrah delivered a standout performance in Australia, where he registered an Indian overseas record in the five-match Test series with 32 wickets.
In the month of December, the ace Indian pacer claimed 22 wickets across three Test matches with an impressive average of over 14 while the fast bowler finished the 32 wickets in total five games. Bumrah could not bowl in the last innings of the last Test match between India and Austalia in Sydney due to a back spasm.
Bumrah produces terrific spells in Brisbane and Melbourne
The 31-year-old pacer excelled with the ball in the entire series but in the Test matches at the Gabba, Brisbane and iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), he delivered standout spells. The senior Indian pacer claimed nine wickets in both the games which in turn played a crucial role in keeping India alive in the competition.
Meanwhile, competing with the Indian pacer was Australia captain and fast bowler Pat Cummins, who played a pivotal role in guiding his team to a 3-1 series win. Another player in the queue was South African paceman Dane Paterson, who sizzled with the ball in the home Test series against Pakistan taking 13 wickets in two Tests at an average of 16.92.
Cummins, meanwhile, claimed 17 wickets across three Test matches against India in the month of December, 5 less than Bumrah. His best bowling performance came in the Adelaide Test match, a sensational 5/57, which helped the hosts secure a commanding 10-wicket victory. He also contributed with the bat playing knocks of 49 and 41 at the MCG. South Africa have sealed their place in the World Test Championship Final (WTC) against Australia in 2025.
