New Delhi: The ongoing tussle between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) regarding the Champions Trophy 2025 has grabbed all the headlines these days.
With India showing its unwillingness to travel to Pakistan for the showpiece event, the PCB has threatened the board by saying that they won’t travel to India for the T20 World Cup 2026 if their Asian rivals refuse to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy.
Pakistan are set to host the first ICC event since the ODI World Cup 1996 and the PCB wants the full participation of all the nations in the marquee events which holds a lot of importance for them. The BCCI wants the PCB to implement a hybrid model by which Team India would play their matches in Dubai.
Jay Shah to travel for ICC annual meeting
However, PCB isn’t happy with this decision. They had to do the same last year for the Asia Cup 2023 and co-hosted the event with Sri Lanka after India refused to travel to Pakistan. As per multiple media reports, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah will travel to Sri Lanka for the ICC annual meeting (July 19 to 22). With several agendas to attend to, one of the things Shah would like to hash out with the PCB Chief, Mohsin Naqvi, would be the Champions Trophy 2025.
The theme of the ICC annual meeting is ‘Capitalizing on the Olympic Opportunity’ with 108 members arriving (nations) and the aim is to prepare for the next Olympics (2028) in Los Angeles. But, it won’t be surprising if the two talk about the Champions Trophy 2025 issue.
Meanwhile, the PCB has already proposed the schedule for the big event with India playing all their matches at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. India vs Pakistan fierce battle will be held on March 1
