Washington: US President Donald Trump‘s running mate JD Vance once reportedly criticised the former by labelling him a racist.
As per a report in the New York Times, a string of text messages and emails shared by Vance’s former classmate surfaced.
Transgender Sofia Nelson, who was Vance’s classmate at Yale Law School, had a fallout with Vance in 2021 after the latter publicly supported an Arkansas ban on gender-affirming care for minors.
Nelson reportedly shared about 90 of their emails and messages between 2014 to 2017.
Vance, in a particular response to Nelson’s remarks about Muslim women not feeling safe going out while wearing hijabs in 2015, reportedly said, “I’m not even sure how I feel about this Muslim stuff. I’m obviously outraged at Trump’s rhetoric, and I worry most of all about how welcome Muslim citizens feel in their own country,”
Vance further added, “But I also think that people have always believed crazy s**t. And there have always been demagogues willing to exploit the people who believe crazy s**t.”
Labelling the former President as racist, Vance in 2016 said, “The more white people feel like voting for Trump, the more black people will suffer. I really believe that.”
‘Obviously It Was…:’ Vance Defends ‘Childless Cat Ladies’ Remark After Backlash
After receiving huge backlash across the country over his ‘childless cat ladies’ remark Vance clarified his stance saying that “it was a sarcastic comment.”
In an interview with Megyn Kelly, Vance said, “Obviously it was a sarcastic comment. People are focusing so much on the sarcasm and not on the substance of what I actually said.”

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre at her daily news conference said, “I think it’s desperate. I think it’s disgusting and I think it’s a dog whistle. We should not forget that she is the Vice President of the United States. She should get that respect. She’s been doing this job with the president for almost four years.”
“She’s a former Senator and has been a critical partner in getting the economy restarted and making sure that — that we deal with the pandemic. And to hear that is, frankly, disgusting,” she added.
Criticism also emerged from Hollywood actors as well. Megastar Jennifer Aniston said, “I truly can’t believe that this is coming from a potential VP of the United States.”
“All I can say is… Mr Vance, I pray that your daughter is fortunate enough to bear children of her own one day. I hope she will not need to turn to IVF as a second option,” she wrote. “
Because you are trying to take that away from her, too,” added.
