New Delhi: The WWE Royal Rumble 2025 was expected to be one of the biggest in history, with top superstars like CM Punk, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Drew McIntyre, and a returning AJ Styles all vying for the chance to headline WrestleMania 41. But what no one saw coming was Jey Uso pulling off the upset of a lifetime, outlasting a stacked field, and eliminating none other than John Cena who was competing in his farewell Rumble to win the prestigious match.
Fans entered the night expecting Cena to make history by becoming only the second WWE Superstar after Stone Cold Steve Austin to win three Royal Rumble matches.
The 16-time World Champion, emotional from the start, was the clear favourite. But in the end, WWE pushed Jey Uso, one of the most popular superstars on the roster, to a career-defining moment, setting up his shot at Gunther (or will there be a curve-ball?) for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 41.

The match kicked off with controversy as Penta appeared to accidentally eliminate himself, but WWE chose to ignore it, refusing to show a replay. Chaos erupted when Intercontinental Champion Bron Breakker entered and started tossing superstars out with ease. Surprise entrants only added to the excitement, with streamer IShowSpeed replacing Akira Tozawa and even eliminating Otis before Breakker made quick work of him.
The intensity skyrocketed when Roman Reigns entered at number 16, clearing house and setting up a thrilling staredown with Jacob Fatu. Drew McIntyre interrupted the moment, followed by Finn Balor, who returned with new entrance music that failed to impress. But the biggest pop of the night came when AJ Styles made his long-awaited return with his classic theme, electrifying the crowd.
The big names kept coming—John Cena at 23, CM Punk at 24, and Seth Rollins at 25. The ring was packed with former world champions, leading to an intense staredown between Cena, Punk, Rollins, and Reigns before an all-out brawl ensued.
As the match thinned out, some eliminations came unexpectedly. McIntyre was thrown out by Damian Priest, only for LA Knight to take out Priest moments later. Then Styles eliminated Knight in quick succession. The final entrant, Logan Paul, played a key role, eliminating Styles and then shocking the crowd by tossing out Punk after he had just eliminated both Reigns and Rollins.
That left the final three: Cena, Paul, and Jey Uso. Cena eliminated Paul, setting up a dramatic one-on-one showdown between himself and Jey Uso. The WWE Royal Rumble 2025 crowd was firmly behind Cena, expecting him to make history. Cena set up an Attitude Adjustment, but Jey countered, shoving the WWE legend over the top rope to secure the most shocking win of the night.
The arena fell silent as Cena, visibly stunned, returned to the ring to hug Jey in a rare show of sportsmanship. While it was a career-defining night for Jey Uso, it was also an emotional moment for Cena, who now has one last chance to earn a WrestleMania 41 main event spot through the Elimination Chamber.
Jey Uso, meanwhile, is expected to challenge Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 41, solidifying himself as a true main-eventer after his unforgettable win in WWE Royal Rumble 2025.
