Jim Corbett National Park

Jim Corbett National Park is located in Uttarakhand’s Nainital district and is the first national park in the country. Established in 1936, the park was the first to come under the Project Tiger initiative. An ecotourism destination, the park contains 617 different species of plants and a diverse variety of fauna. Every year, tourists go there in large numbers to see tigers.

Ranthambore National Park

The Ranthambore National Park is located in Rajasthan and is a celebrated tiger reserve, renowned for affording unparalleled opportunities to photograph tigers in their natural habitat. Many tiger images from India shared on social media and the internet hail from Ranthambore. It was declared one of the Project Tiger reserves in 1973 and it is known for its population of Bengal tigers.

Kanha National Park

The Kanha Tiger Reserve, also called the Kanha-Kisli National Park, is located in Madhya Pradesh. The present-day Kanha area is divided into two protected areas, Hallon and Banjar, and the national park was designated tiger reserve in 1973. Kanha Tiger Reserve hosts populations of Bengal tigers and is the first tiger reserve in India to officially introduce a mascot, Bhoorsingh the Barasingha.

Bandhavgarh National Park

Bandhavgarh National Park is located in Madhya Pradesh. This biodiverse park is known for its large population of royal Bengal tigers, especially in the central Tala zone. Other animals include white tigers, leopards and deer. Historically villagers and their cattle have been at a threat from the tiger. Rising mining activities around the park are putting the tigers at risk.

Pench National Park

Pench National Park is one of many places that may have inspired Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book. It is part of Pench Tiger Reserve and derives its name from the Pench River. The forest reserve was also the location for the BBC wildlife series ‘Tiger: Spy in the Jungle’, a three-part documentary narrated by David Attenborough.

Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve

The Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve is located in Maharashtra’s Chandrapur district and it is the oldest and largest national park in the state. The reserve includes the Tadoba National Park and the Andhari Wildlife Sanctuary. According to reports, there are more than 100 tigers in Tadoba, 88 in the forest and 27 immediately outside the reserve.
