New Delhi: Jos Buttler, Will Jacks and Jacob Bethell are set to miss the Indian Premier League 2025 playoffs once the 18th edition resumes on May 17. The development comes after the trio was named in England’s squad for a home ODI series against West Indies.
Most of the overseas players, including English cricketers, participating in the IPL left for their respective nations after the cash-rich league was suspended last week due conflict between India and Pakistan. With the new dates of IPL being announced, Buttler (Gujarat Titans), Bethell (Royal Challengers Bengaluru) and Jacks (Mumbai Indians) face a clash between international duty and and franchise commitments.
Trio set to return to India?
As per a report in ESPNcricinfo, all the three England players are expected to return to India to participate in the league stage matches before travelling back ahead of the playoffs. The report further mentions that the travel plans for Buttler and Jacks are not yet confirmed but Bethell is set to fly out of England for RCB’s next two fixtures.

The English cricketer will take a flight back before the franchise’s last group match in Lucknow and report to Birmingham ahead of the first ODI at Edgbaston. The ECB has made it clear before the mega auction last year that all the centrally-contracted England players would be fully available for the IPL in 2025 but that commitment covered the original dates of the league.
With the IPL now being pushed back and the final being held on June 3, the players will return to England to fulfill their national commitments. Earlier on Tuesday, England named a 16-man squad for their three-match ODI series against West Indies, which starts on May 29.
