New Delhi: The legendary MS Dhoni was felicitated by the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) on Tuesday after he was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. Former India captain Dhoni joined an elite list of players like Sachin Tendulkar, Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar in becoming only the 11th Indian to be inducted in the ICC Hall of Fame.

Dhoni, one of India’s most successful captains and greatest wicket-keeper batters of all time, was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame for his immense contributions to cricket. JSCA organised a special ceremony on Tuesday to celebrate Dhoni’s inclusion in the Hall of Fame and honour him for another stellar achievement in his illustrious career.

Newly elected JSCA president Ajay Nath Shahdeo was present at the felicitation ceremony alongside the secretary Saurabh Tiwary, vice president Sanjay Pandey, treasurer Amitava Ghosh and the other members of the JSCA committee. President Shahdeo presented a bouquet to Dhoni to feliciate him and later shared a congratulatory message for the former India captain on social media.

“Heartiest congratulations to #Mahi @mahi7781 on his #ICCHallOfFame induction! Had the pleasure of meeting him and celebrating this remarkable achievement. Wishing #Mahi continued success and admiration from fans worldwide,” Shahdeo wrote in an Instagram post with a picture from the ceremony.

Widely regarded as one of the best captains in white-ball cricket, Dhoni led India to multiple victories, including three ICC trophies and the Test mace. He was the first Indian captain to lead the team to no.1 Test rankings in 2009. Dhoni led India to their maiden T20 World Cup glory in 2007, before ending the country’s 28-year-long wait for a 2nd ODI World Cup title in 2011.

He also led India to a memorable triumph in the Champions Trophy in 2013. Dhoni remains the only captain in the world to have won all three major ICC limited-overs trophies. He scored 10,772 in 350 ODIs, 4,876 runs in 90 Tests, and 1,617 runs in 98 T20Is in a glorious career spanning over 14 years. Dhoni continues to hold the record for most wins by an Indian captain in ODIs.

He retired from international cricket in August 2020, a year after playing his last game for India in the 2019 ODI World Cup semi-final against New Zealand. Dhoni continues to play for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) despite having turned 43. He was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame, immediately after completing five years of retirement from international cricket.

MS Dhoni continues to stay away from limelight

Despite being inducted in the ICC Hall of Fame, Dhoni was not present at the award ceremony in Dubai, which was attended by the likes of Matthew Hayden, Graeme Smith and Daniel Vettori and others, who were among the seven cricketers inducted in the ICC Hall of Fame this year. However, Dhoni attended the felicitation ceremony organised by JSCA in Ranchi.

The former India captain continues to enjoy his life, away from the limelight in his home city and is often spotted riding his bikes on the streets of Ranchi. Dhoni regularly heads to the JSCA Stadium to train and practice to keep himself fit and busy. His future in the IPL remains subject to intense speculation, but Dhoni is yet to take a call on his retirement.
