The Women in Blue will next face Olympic silver medalists China on Saturday. Team India are now in the second position in the points table with nine points, the same as China who are in the first position due to a better goal difference. China have a goal difference of +21 while India have +18. The top four sides out of the six will qualify for the semifinals at the end of the round-robin league stage.
India’s campaign in Asian Champions Trophy 2024
Harendra Singh’s team have won their first three matches in the Asian Champions Trophy 2024. They defeated Malaysia by 4-0 and South Korea by 3-2 in the previous two games. Despite dominating the opening games, India struggled to capitalise on their goal-scoring opportunities.
Another area of concern for the Women in Blue is the poor conversion rate of penalty corners. India earned 11 penalty corners against Malaysia but only managed to convert three. The struggle continued in the next match against Korea, with the team failing to score any goal out of the eight set-piece opportunities. But the big win against Thailand will certainly boost their confidence heading into the big matches against Japan and China.
