New Delhi: Star Indian sprinter Jyothi Yarraji on Sunday clinched gold medal at the ongoing 38th National Games at the Ganga Athletics Ground (Maharana Pratap Sports College) in Dehradun. She accounted for the meet record by clocking 13.10s to finish on the top of the podium in the event.
Starting the final sprint from the third lane, Yarraji, who donned the bib no. 106, didn’t have an ideal start with West Bengal’s Moumita Mondal seen in the lead. However, the Andhra Pradesh athlete wasn’t the one to be left behind and she thrusted her way to bridge the gap with Moumita.
The Asian Games silver medallist was soon in the lead after crossing the second hurdle. It looked an intense fight between Jyothi and Moumita in the crunch moments but, in the end, the trainee of the Reliance Foundation, prevailed with ease. The timing of 13.10 seconds was bettered hours after she clocked 13.20s to top the Heat 1 of the women’s 100m hurdles.
With a timing of 13.36s, Moumita settled for the sliver while Tamil Nadu’s Nithya Ramraj took the bronze medal home after attaining 13.60s time.
