New Delhi: Former Pakistan cricketer Kamran Akmal hailed the efforts of Indian all-rounders Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai. The Rohit Sharma-led side mustered 280-run win at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium to lead the two-match Test series 1-0.
Ashwin and Jadeja dug out India from a precarious situation after the hosts stuttered at 144 for 6 in the first innings on the afternoon of Day 1. The duo brought their experience to the fore and played many magnificent shots in a mode to revive the Indian innings.
Ashwin registered his sixth Test century, fourth on home soil, while Jadeja played the second fiddle in the 199-run stand for the seventh-wicket as India posted a commendable score of 376 in the first innings. The duo contributed with the ball in the second innings, picking nine wickets between them. Ashwin claimed his 37th Test five-wicket haul, leveling with late Australian spin wizard Shane Warne. Jadeja added three wickets as India bowled out Bangladesh for 234 in the monumental 515-run chase.
“What an all-round performance from Ashwin. He took six wickets in the second innings and scored a century. It was a match-winning partnership from Jaddu. Without these two players, India can’t form a Test playing XI at home. They are big performers,” Akmal said on his YouTube channel.
Ashwin and Jadeja have played tremendous role in India’s unmatchable record in Test cricket at home. Ever since the two all-rounders played their first match together in 2012, India have lost only three Tests in 45 matches when the duo featured in the team XI. India has won 34 Tests with both Ashwin and Jadeja in the team till now.
