New Delhi: The Men in Blue beat Bangladesh by 280 runs in the first Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and will look to seal the series against Bangladesh in the second Test at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.
In the first innings of the opening Test, the Bangladeshi fast bowlers troubled Indian batters with extra swing and bounce and as a result, The Men in Blue lost their 6 wickets for just 144 runs. Ashwin along with Ravindra Jadeja stitched a 199-run partnership for the seventh wicket and helped India to post a good score.
Indian pacer also did a great job and got The Bangla Tigers all out for 149 runs in the first innings. Jasprit Bumrah picked up 4 wickets while Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep also took two wickets each. Team India batted again and declared their innings on 287 runs.
Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill scored a brilliant century. Chasing the target, Bangladesh got all out for 234 runs and India won the match by a huge margin. Ashwin took 6 wickets and Jadeja also picked up 3 wickets in the second innings.
What happened last time Green Park hosted a Test match?
The last time Kanpur’s Green Park Stadium hosted a test match was in November 2021. The first Test between India and New Zealand ended in a draw. The Men in Blue batted first and scored 345 runs in the first innings. Shreyas Iyer notched up 105 runs off 171 balls and Ravindra Jadeja also scored a half-century. Tim Southee took 5 wickets for the Blackcaps.
Tom Latham and Will Young stitched a 151-run partnership for the first wicket but Indian bowlers made a strong comeback and got New Zealand all out for 296 runs in the first innings. Axar Patel picked up five wickets and Ashwin also took three wickets.
Shreyas Iyer and Wriddhiman Saha scored brilliant fifties as India scored 234 runs in the second innings. Jadeja and Ashwin did a great job with the ball and troubled New Zealand batters on day 5. India needed one wicket to win the opening Test of the series and pushed really hard for the victory but light didn’t allow the 12-13 minutes of play left in the day and both teams settled for a draw.
