What’s wrong with Vinod Kambli? Close friend reveals health issues of ex-cricketer

New Delhi: Former India cricketer Vinod Kambli’s recent public appearance at a memorial event for legendary coach Ramakant Achrekar has sparked a wave of concerns about his health among fans. He was struggling during the event and was physically weak. During the event, a video went viral where Kambli clung to his childhood friend Sachin Tendulkar’s hand and refused to let go.

The video only deepened the concerns of former cricketers and fans. The video also added to the already existing concerns over Kambli’s health that had been raised following another viral video in August. A close friend of Kambli has revealed that he has gone to rehab 14 times already.

Marcus Couto, a former first-class umpire has revealed that Kambli has multiple and severe health issues. He further said that there’s no point in sending him to rehab as he has already gone to rehab 14 times.

“There’s no point in him going for rehab—Kambli has already gone to rehab 14 times! Thrice we took him to a rehab in Vasai” Couto said. He also visited Kambli along with his brother Ricky at his residence in Bandra after the video of him struggling to walk on the road went viral on social media.

1983 WC team willing to help Vinod Kambli

Many cricketers have maintained a distance from Kambli over the years due to his alcohol addiction. But the members of the 1983 World Cup-winning team are willing to help him but there’s one important condition that he must be willing to take the first step towards recovery. The 1983 World Cup heroes had previously helped former opener and coach Anshuman Gaekwad during his fight with cancer.

Former India fast bowler Balwinder Singh Sandhu has said that Kapil Dev told him clearly that if Kambli wants to go to rehab the team is willing to help him financially but he has to take the first step.

“However, he has to check into rehab himself first. Only if he does that, we are ready to foot the bill, irrespective of how long the treatment lasts” Balwinder Singh Sandhu added.
